“This is an unfortunate truth. Yes, our politicians, our leaders have led us down many dark paths, but this is rightly not just about the sins of our fathers, because it continues today – but why are we, the people, apparently powerless to stop this maniacal behaviour of those whom are supposed to act in ‘our’ best interests, and not the interests of ‘the few’. We are no longer the world power we were years ago. Our military might does not straddle the globe. Yet here we are, in the midst of global conflict for the benefit of the few, and detriment of our people. Whilst our leaders may only pay lip service to our historical exploits, those countries who suffered under the yoke of British colonialism do not forget. Using your military might to exploit other nations should never be supported in today’s society, yet here we are again, paying no heed to history and what it teaches us. Yes, of course there were reasons to be proud of what this small island of ours has achieved throughout history, and we cannot measure all actions of yesteryear using the yardstick we apply today, that is totally nonsensical despite the fact we see it time and again, the destroying of Confederate statues in the US is one stark example, and more close to home, trying to erase history itself by trying to erase any mention of individuals who were instrumental in shaping our old Empire. That is just pure nonsense. Times they are a changing, but for some reason, our leaders still feel the need to interfere in the politics of other nations, but not n a positive way, but in a way that puts its very own people in potentially mortal danger. That is not who the British people are – but it seems to exist in the DNA of our leaders. Throughout history, the people of this country have done the buffing of our leaders, often to their detriment, but our class system consolidated the power of the few, and the many were there to support them. It was what we did. But no more. Our leaders may well continue to play dangerous games, hidden from sight, but the people will not touch their forelock in blind deference as we did in the past, and go where we are told, and do what is required of us. In case our leaders had not noticed, Great Britain is a very different country to what it was in bygone days. Our leaders ignore this stark reality at their peril”.
