The risk of WWIII is constantly growing. Four years ago, when former Energy Secretary Ernest Moniz and Senator Sam Nunn issued a
warning that the "world needs a wake-up call" about "Sleepwalking toward the Nuclear Precipice"; presently, it is no longer "sleepwalking" but "accelerating." Ukraine is the apparent country for its start, thus taking over the dubious baton from Serbia for WWI and Poland for WWII.
Voices of reason who call for the immediate start of diplomatic efforts to avoid Armageddon are overshadowed by folks like NATO’s head, Jens Stoltenberg, who allowed Ukraine to use F-16 for strikes on targets inside Russia, French President & “micro-Napoleon” Emmanuel Macron, who suggests using NATO troops in Ukraine, Pentagon’s head Lloyd Austin, who, during the recent hearings in Congress, warned that in the case of Ukraine’s defeat, NATO will be drawn into the war.
The recent disclosure by the New York Times about CIA bases in Ukraine, as well as by the German senior military about supplying and operating long-range missiles to Ukraine capable of hitting Russia’s heartland – and by no one else but Chancellor Olaf Scholz himself, who disclosed that Americans, British, and French are already doing this on the scene – raises the tensions to a critical level.
Finally, repeated threats by Biden and his advisors about their intention to inflict a strategic defeat on Russia while its military doctrine orders using nuclear weapons in the face of such developments prove that a nuclear war is on the horizon, if not by design, then by accident.
As for two usual questions – who to blame and what to do – John Mearsheimer, Douglas Macgregor, Benjamin Abelow, and many other distinguished experts provide a clear answer to the first one, which is that it is the U.S. and NATO, sometimes called the “the collective West”; which is responsible.
The recent reports by Matt Taibbi, which include his analysis of why the New York Times spilled the beans about 12 secret CIA bases in Ukraine or the revelation by Peter Hitchens in the Daily Mail admitting that it is the West who “began this filthy war” and asking a question “Why didn’t we side with democracy against the Kyiv mob?” I’d add David Sacks who shows how the overwhelming majority of the Western mainstream and social corporate media keeps lying about this war.
Speaking about lies, the one that is constantly pronounced is that the crisis began on February 24, 2022, with Putin’s “unprovoked” invasion of Ukraine. A Western-backed regime change coup in Ukraine eight years earlier, in February 2014, coordinated by current Under Secretary of State for Political Affairs Victoria Nuland (Thank God, soon to retire) on the ground but under daily White House control, is a more realistic date.
There were many other lies between these dates, such as the one by French, German, and Polish diplomats about their pledge to support UN Security Council approved the Minsk peace accords, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky’s lies about bringing peace to Ukrainians if they elect him in 2019, and his and his master’s constant lies that they are defending not only Ukraine’s [non-existing] freedom and democracy but these around the world since in case of victory Putin will continue his expansion drive.
In addition, one must add Washington’s lies and betrayals that directly or indirectly contributed to this crisis: Bill Clinton’s start in 1998 of NATO’s Eastern expansion despite an earlier pledge to Soviet President Mikhail Gorbachev during George H.W. Bush’s presidency not to do it; his son George W Bush’s push in 2008 to bring Ukraine and Georgia into NATO, despite earlier praise of Putin by the younger Bush for his help in the first U.S operation in Afghanistan after 9/11; fake “Russiagate” scandal about Trump-Putin collusion; blaming Russia for Нunter Biden laptop content, which Blinken used to help Biden win elections in 2020.
One can trace betrayal back to the end of WWII when, despite U.S. – Soviet alliance in this war and their military camaraderie expressed during a historic April 25, 1945 meeting on the Elbe River on the eve of their joint victory over Nazi Germany, there were several secret programs underway like “Operation Gladio,” which involved tens of thousands of unreconstructed Ukrainian followers who found sanctuary in Anglo-American territories and were put to work forming West German Intelligence.
Let us remind that the head of the Nazi Joint Chiefs of Staff, Adolf Heusinger, was appointed Chairman of NATO’s Military Committee in 1961. Sixteen consecutive NATO chiefs of Central and Eastern European Command were “former high-level Nazis mandated to carry out the program of Lord Ismay, the Atlantic Alliances’ first secretary-general and former right-hand man to Winston Churchill, to “keep the Russians out, the Germans down, and America in.”
The United States and Canada not only allowed but even encouraged the immigration of Nazi collaborators and Holocaust perpetrators in the years following the war.
All of the above is important since many of these events played a role in the ruinous road to the current crisis when the clock on the symbolic doomsday clock of the Bulletin of the Atomic Scientists shows only 90 seconds to midnight. Ironically, this bulletin censored my comment for their recent article “Putin Threatens Again: An Updated Timeline on potential nuclear escalation of the Russia-Ukraine War, where I use some of the above-mentioned facts even though they are easily verifiable.
