Biden’s Babbles, West Wing Dreams and Democratic Delusions

What are we to make of US President Joe Biden’s two latest public bungled misstatements in his nationally – and indeed globally – broadcast appearance on Thursday? 

Biden’s remarks to his great global audience were beyond the realm of satire. It is no wonder that true believing American liberal Democrats cannot even admit them. Try and get any one of those High-Minded Innocent, Trusting Folk (New York Times readers all) to do so. They stutter! They foam at the mouth! Their eyes turn glased and their eyeballs rotate in opposite directions. 

For these people are all wedded to their foundational myths that all Republicans are simultaneously the embodiment of Evil, the Spanish Inquisition, Nazi Racism and a Millennium of the Dark Ages. Yet now they are being forced to contemplate that their own Beloved National Leader of the Past Four Years is a senile, drooling old coot. And in truth, he always was.

What did Biden do with the eyes of the entire world upon him on Thursday night? First, he literally confused President Vladimir Putin of Russia with President Volodymyr Zelenskyy of Ukraine.

And second, he actually confused his obviously female, attractive and charming lady vice president, Kamala Harris, with the man he regards as the Embodiment of All Evil and Darkness. He referred to his lady vice president as Donald Trump.

Now the difficulty of explaining this away as simply another example of Biden’s clearly advanced dementia is clear. Not a single Democrat still wants to admit this. Neither does any eminent member of the US Mainstream Media (MSM).

For if they did, they would have to admit immediately too that they were totally incapable or dishonest and lying to the core – or more plausibly both at the same time – in failing to report upon and bring to the public attention that the ultimate possessor of the US nuclear codes, in final control of the Triad itself, the American strategic deterrent, was an unhinged, irresponsible raving old loony,

Democrats for the past decade have eagerly embraced this myth about former president and once again Republican frontrunner and de facto presidential candidate Donald Trump. But they always eagerly embrace the contrary myth that “their” presidents are simultaneously good, virtuous and wise.

The deepest expression of this can be seen in the enormously influential long-running television drama series “The West Wing: starring Martin Sheen as the President of the United States Jed Bartlet – a figure who was simultaneously principled, courageous, all-knowing, compassionate, fearless in war, wise, a shoulder for even his staff to cry up and a Nobel Prize winning economist to boot.

Now no President of the United States in history has ever won a Nobel Prize for Economics and considering the arcane complexity and often sheer bizarre silliness of so many of those who have won this accolade, it is just as well.

But go from the so comforting dream figure of Sheen’s President Bartlet, never cursing, never sleeping around, never raping or seducing any unwary or too eager young girl intern, never even getting seriously drunk!

And instead readjust to the reality of tiny, stupid, bemused and bewildered Joe Biden gurgling his infantile babble while taunting the leaders of Russia and China more or less to come out and face him “as a man.”!

Why this disconnect between dignified, noble, aspiring fiction and the terrifying chaos and mad nihilistic humor of America’s political reality is just too much for any remaining Democratic True Believers in the United States to take.

Yet I suggest a way out exists. Perhaps Cunning Old Joe Biden is not crazy as a loon after all, but only crazy as a fox. Perhaps we can deconstruct and interpret his apparent mangling of meaning to instead deduce the diabolically brilliant political mind that hatched them.

For, consider, every political analyst worth the name in America concedes privately – and some even acknowledge openly-  that Vice President Harris would not have a chance against the formidable aggressive and abusing forensic debating skills of Donald Trump if she should succeed her Master as the Democrats presidential standard bearer.

But suppose Trump were to get a sex change to win the support of the Democrats’ feminist wing that now holds the entire party in its Iron Grip? Why then, Biden could dispense with Kamala Harris, appoint the newly transformed “Ms” Donald Trump as his vice president and eventual successor! And then this newly minted Ms Trump could then sweep to a landslide victory on the Transgender vote!

Similarly, perhaps Biden’s apparent confusion and conflation of Zelenskyy and Putin can be unraveled to provide the key to lasting World Peace presented by this same elusive, so-cunning, hidden political genius, the Sorcerer of Scranton.

On Thursday night, while (apparently) confusing the leaders of Russia and Ukraine, Biden expressed his support for Putin and his willingness to back him to the hilt, while making quite clear (apparently) that he thought he was referring to Zelenskyy. 

But might not this be just a cynical and brilliant role reversal on the sale of that renowned anti-communist Richard Nixon flying to Beijing to create detente with Mao Zedong? Or Ronald Reagan, that even more fearsome Hater of All Communists, offering to abolish all nuclear weapons in Iceland at his Reykjavik with Soviet President Mikhail Gorbachev?

Here again, Biden would be able to create a new era of trust and Global Cooperation with Putin and get away with it because every wilting old hawk in the Democratic Party – and the Republicans too – would just assume he had mistaken Putin for Zelenskyy.

Then, even the sweet, trusting Democratic Party faithful, eager to go to bed every night with the uplifting words of President Jed Bartlet from “The West Wing” still ringing in their ears, can sleep sweetly and softly, again secure in their dreams that the reigning President of the United States is Truly Wise, Truly Good and Truly Politically Brilliant. Thus, the momentous issues of war and peace are forever safe in his [or her] hands.

But while the infantile fools slumber soundly in their sweet dreams, the rest of us are still trapped here in this cold, relentless, unforgiving and unforgivable terrible reality. As Armageddon looms.
