Glenn Greenwald in an interview with Tucker Carlon said war hawks are willing to continue to push for war in Ukraine because they see Ukrainian soldiers as pawns in an attempt to get back at Russia for what they perceive to be intervention in the 2016 presidential election.
Ep. 37 The two defining tragedies of our time — the war in Ukraine and the presidency of Joe Biden — are both finally coming to an end.

“I absolutely think, Tucker, that one of the things that is the greatest fraud of this war is that the people that kept claiming they were so concerned about Ukrainians were in fact totally indifferent to the Ukrainians,” Greenwald said. “They were willing to sacrifice Ukrainians and Ukraine at the alter at getting back at Russia. I think in large part because they wanted to exact vengeance against Russia for what they perceived to be Russia’s role in helping Donald Trump win the 2016 election and causing Hillary Clinton to lose. And they were willing to sacrifice an entire country and to wipe out tens of thousands of lives of young people who didn’t want to fight in order to fulfill their political goal of extracting vengeance against Russia, weakening Russia. They have been saying for the last couple of months that American support for this support is eroding. ‘Oh look at how great this war is. We don’t have to lose any of our lives, we’re just having Ukrainians die and we’re just spending a bunch of money.’ Americans aren’t dying, only Ukrainians for this goal of weakening Russia.”
The details of the peace deal presented today by US special envoy Steve Witkoff are consistent with the report in the Financial Times discussed in my previous article and with Larry Sparano in the posted interview. Putin will halt the Russian advance prior to driving Ukrainian soldiers out of all of the territory that has been reincorporated into Russia. It appears to be the case that the borders between Russia and Ukraine will be the current front line, so Putin is withdrawing Russia’s claim to the Russian territories still under Ukrainian occupation.
Russia and the US seem near a Ukraine peace deal. Kyiv’s role may be moot.
President Donald Trump’s hopes of securing a quick Ukraine peace deal hang in the balance after Washington’s envoy, Steve Witkoff, held his fourth Kremlin meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin Friday.
