The Doomsday Clock of the Bulletin of the Atomic Scientists - a crucial barometer and guide in helping preserve the survival of the human race - has now been set at 90 seconds to Midnight since January 2023, the closest setting to Midnight - defined as the outbreak of thermonuclear war - it has ever been.
It is now time to reset the Clock.
It needs to be turned to Midnight.
There is no more Margin.
Doomsday is upon us.
The destruction of Europe and North America – and the obvious threat to Russia too – could now come at any time.
I have just celebrated my 74h birthday and in surprising (at least, to me) vigorous health. I do not expect to live to celebrate my 75th one. And at least a billion other human beings will die at the same time.
American University Professor of History Peter Kuznick’s most grave warning call published on this New Kontinent web site is a sober documented warning that the Trumpet of Judgment in the Book of Revelation is about to sound. For how else can we possibly interpret the appalling, unprecedented events now taking place across Eastern Europe?
Kuznick writes: “The truth is that I’m scared shitless about the global situation. To borrow a phrase from George Kennan, we are like lemmings blindly venturing toward the abyss of nuclear war. All the latest indications are increasingly ominous, but no leaders are doing what is necessary to avert this catastrophe. Instead, the lunatics have taken over the asylum.”
Anyone who has followed and appreciated Professor Kuznick’s exhaustive, meticulous scholarship over the years knows that he has never been prone to excessive hyperbole. He always calls the shots as he sees them. And he has also been an outstanding beacon of moral courage in the American political, academic and journalistic environments that have comprehensively lacked it.
So, when Kuznick, of all people, admits he is “scared shitless” we must not shrug off his comments as amusing hyperbole. We should all be scared shitless too.
President’ Volodymyr Zelenskyy of Ukraine, a mad dog who is no longer the puppet of the United States and the NATO Alliance but their demented rider, has now unleashed deep strikes into Russia.
In the aftermath of the Kursk incursion, Zelenskyy has been contemptuous of the restraints that the Biden administration has supposedly placed on Ukraine’s war efforts. As wise, experienced veteran analyst Gideon Rachman writes, Zelenskyy has denounced the “naive, illusory concept of so-called red lines regarding Russia, which dominated the assessment of the war by some partners.”
Indeed, Russia’s early warning radar stations are now being openly attacked. What possible conclusion can Russia’s leaders be expected to draw from this development? And why has the government of the United States not intervened to stop him?
But in truth there is no United States government. The witless, stupid theoretically ruling Democrats in the United States are now celebrating their supposedly bloodless coup in replacing pathetic, senile, petty, stupid, witless “Waxworks Joe” Biden with the supposedly dynamic Vice President Kamala Harris as their election candidate in November. Well, at least Kamala is not comatose.
However, lost in all the infantile, hair-splitting ridiculous pontifications of the pathetic US mainstream media is a simple obvious, appalling fact. Biden, the walking black hole in the White House (in truth he cannot accurately be clinically described as “living”) is still there. He is not due to relinquish office to either Harris or Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump until January 2025. That is still more than four months away. Until then, who is really in charge of the nuclear codes?
Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austin is as stupid, ignorant and nonexistent a presence as the animated waxwork Biden himself. Harris hasn’t a clue. Secretary of State Antony Blinken and National Security Adviser Jake Sullivan, along with Biden himself should have been impeached after the catastrophic chaotic collapse of the US-backed regime and the humiliating panic-evacuation of all US forces and remaining personnel from Afghanistan in August 2021.
Since then, all of them have consistently maintained their evil, stupid, future and simply bound-to-fail policy of trying to bleed Russia white while driving the innocent Ukrainian people to be slaughtered as their blood sacrifices in the process.
The much-touted latest US- and NATO-manipulated and directed offensive in the Kursk area starting on August 6 has created a most fearful escalation. A major nuclear Russian installation, the Kursk power plant, was directly attacked.
Now, as Professor Kuznick noted, Russian President Vladimir Putin has soberly and clearly warned that the last red line has been crossed.
Unlike his contemptible American, NATO and British counterparts, Putin has always been a man of his word. Until now, he has only responded reactively to block or contain a quarter century of relentless Western provocations and encroachments clearly designed to destroy and dismember Russia. When he says the time is up, he means it.
Biden, Blinken, Sullivan, Austin and their ridiculous ragdolls supposedly in power in Washington, Brussels and London do not realize this. They are incapable of imagining or conceptualizing that other world leaders are actually responsible, competent and decisive – and that, if pushed far enough, they will be prepared to respond with devastating power in defense of their own great nations.
Ninety-two years ago, the magnificent, tragic and prescient English poet Rudyard Kipling eerily predicted the looming certainty of a coming, imminent second world war between Britain and Germany. In his poem “The Storm Cone,” written in 1932, four years before his death and seven years before the start of World War II in Europe, Kipling wrote:
“This is the midnight – Let no star
“Delude us – Dawn is very far
“This is the tempest long foretold
“Slow to make head but sure to hold.”
Our own Gathering Storm has indeed been slow to make head though long foretold, just as Kipling predicted: But there has always been one cozy, comforting out: Even the most vivid, responsible, darkest predictions such as that of the Bulletin of the Atomic Scientists’ Doomsday Clock have always offered a margin of grace – a breathing space in which events and policies could still, conceivably be turned around. Even now, the scientists who set the Doomsday Clock cling to their precious remaining 90 seconds of grace before the Bell of Doom tolls.
They cannot do so anymore.
For, as Kipling continued:
“Worse than present jeopardy
“May our forlorn tomorrow be.”
Doomsday is upon us now.
We have reached Midnight.
