On February 21, 2024, Edward Lozansky wrote an op ed in the Washington Times entitled: “Yalta 2.0 Needed Now!” Others including Gilbert Doctorow was recently expressed the view that such a conference may now be on the agenda.
This time such a Great Power conference should be attended by the President Trump, President Putin, President Xi and Prime Minister Modi. Great Britain should not be invited!
The agenda of such a Yalta 2 should be more than Ukraine. It must address the broader issues mentioned by President Trump as having been discussed between himself and President Putin, including the question of the US dollar.
Such a conference could now be the occasion for the Four Powers, the USA, Russia, China and India to initiate the creation of a New Bretton Woods system. Such a system would respect national sovereignty as reflected in the Atlantic Charter and the United Nations Charter.
It would create a New Bretton Woods system based on a return to Roosevelt’s original anti-Keynesian conception, in which the USD is defended by removing sanctions, creating fixed exchange rates once again and emphasizing credit extension for domestic and international economic development projects, cooperation in the development of fusion power and in space.
Dmitry Peskov has stated that Russia would be happy if President Trump went to Moscow on May 9, the day celebrated in Russia as Victory Day over Nazism. President Xi Jinping will be attending. It is also possible that Prime Minister Modi, who is now visiting with President Trump in Washington, will also attend.
